Liz and Cassandra | Camp Chief Hector Wedding | Kananaskis Country, Alberta

How do I even begin to speak about my amazing experience working with these two wonderful women? From our first conversation, I knew I was in for not only a great experience, but a lasting one. Liz and Cassandra are one of kind type of people. They are passionate about each other and life, they come from the heart and they know how to have a good time. When I first met with Liz to learn about her wedding, I knew almost instantly I wanted to be a part of their day. She shared visions of games, celebrations, playful events that surrounded their day, and a lot of fun, relaxed vibes with their family/friends at Camp Chief Hector. Not only did they deliver, they went above and beyond.

Their wedding took place on a crisp fall day in October of 2016. The weather had a lot of snow and rain in the forecast, but none of it came to pass. Their day was sunny, warm and full of light, fun vibes. I really can not choose one aspect of their day that was a favourite. Their  whole day, and the time we worked together has been very memorable and special to me. Today, they are so much more than clients to me, they are friends.

Here are my favourite images from their winter engagement session along hwy 93 north, and their incredible wedding at Camp Chief Hector. Liz and Cassandra, it was beyond a gift to work with you both. I am so glad we met. Every time I look at the photos we made together it leaves me warm and smiling. I know you two will make it through anything life throws at you. It was honour to be a part of this time in your lives.

Liz and Cassandra were kind enough to share a testimonial of their time with me. Thank you so much for your words!

"When my wife and I got engaged we sat down and discussed what we were unwilling to compromise on and mutually agreed that photos are the most important thing as that is what you get to keep and cherish forever (second only to each other of course). After pouring through literally thousands of photos and hundreds of photographers we decided on the incomparable Jody Goodwin. She is an expert at capturing the breathtaking beauty of nature and has an incredible eye for candid moments and catching pure joy on film.

From the moment we first spoke with Jody we knew we had made the right decision. She truly loves what she does and cares an incredible amount for the people she works with. Jody is one of the most kind, talented, genuine human beings we have ever met and we felt comfortable working with her immediately. She exudes excitement, love and light that creates an infectious atmosphere of fun that makes being photographed feel effortless. My wife and I don't typically love having our picture taken but I mean it when I say we would happily have Jody take our picture any day!

Our wedding day was full of chaos due to an enormous bridal party and being surrounded by an incredible team of people working to get all of us ready so I didn't think I would have many getting ready photos (which I was okay with) but somehow Jody swept in and made the chaos look like calm and managed to catch so many beautiful moments that we will cherish for years to come. While looking at our photos we were overwhelmed with emotion as our wedding day memories came flooding back because every single photo is dripping with our personalities, is filled with the people we love and moments we didn't even realize she was there for. She even caught me ugly crying during our wedding vows (trust me...it was bad haha) and managed to make it look pretty! Now THAT is worth it's weight in gold.

We couldn't be more thankful that we met Jody and have her in our lives. We have received endless compliments on our photos and have had numerous friends tell us they wish they had found her for theirs. If there is one thing you can splurge on for your wedding and know that you will never regret it, it's Jody Goodwin Photography. Not only will you have the gift of breathtaking images from the happiest day of your life but you will likely gain a new friend as a bonus. BEST. PHOTOGRAPHER. EVER." ~ Liz and Cassandra

Canmore is truly one of the most beautiful places in Canada, especially in the fall. Marie and Pierre had an absolutely beautiful fall day for their fall wedding at Silvertip Resort. I am most pleased to finally see them on my blog.

Chyanne and Taylor | Canmore, AB Wedding | Canmore Wedding Photography

Between our lovely engagement session, and their even more beautiful wedding, it was such a pleasure working with this couple. Chyanne has to be one of the most kind, genuine and loveable women I have had the pleasure to work with. It is of little surprise to anyone that Tyler is so completely in love with her. You can sense that same love from all of their family and friends around her. They make a great couple together.

I am so pleased to share some of my favourite images from their engagement session in Kananaskis country, and their lovely DIY wedding that took place this past fall in Canmore AB. Chyanne went over the top with her incredible decorating and design ideas for their reception, which was held at the Miners Hall in Canmore, Alberta. She made everything from the backdrops to her own bouquets, and all of it was perfecting done.

Melissa and Kevin | Squamish, BC Wedding | Intimate Family Wedding

I am so pleased to finally be able to share this lovely destination wedding from Squamish, BC on the blog today! I loved being a part of this intimate, backyard wedding for a few reasons. Mel (the bride) and I have been friends for a number of years, and I was thrilled to be a part of her special day. Two, Kevin (the groom) is an amazing man! These two have been together for many years and have created quite a life for themselves in a beautiful little corner, close to the spit in Squamish. I've always loved their home, and was super excited to photograph a backyard wedding for them. And three, I love to travel for weddings! It was so exciting boarding a plane and flying to a brand new area to photograph an intimate wedding. It was a pleasure joining them for their wedding weekend, photographing their rehearsal dinner and full wedding day.

Here are my favourite images from my time with them. I had a really hard time narrowing it down. I could have shared their whole collection. These two are surrounded by incredible family and friends. All of them sharing in the common delight of finally seeing these two marry each other.

Mel and Kevin, I hope you two look back and smile at your day with fond memories. Memories of hilarious mishaps during the ceremony ;), the beautiful sunny day you two were blessed with, the amazing food and ice cream truck (seriously, it was the best!) and the overwhelming feelings of love and support your community, close friends and family. To say it was an honour capturing your day, merely scratches the surface. It was a privilege. I wish you both the absolute best life can send your way! xo

They imparted some truly lovely words from their time with me. Thank you for the kind testimonial, Mel and Kevin!

"Working with Jody was fantastic! She put Kevin and I at ease and made our experience in front of the camera both comfortable and super fun! Her knowledge of the process was extremely helpful, being that this was our first time getting married . We trusted Jody to guide us and relied heavily on her when making key decisions regarding the timing of our day. Jody's ability to direct us, our wedding party and our guests was exceptional.

She blended into our wedding perfectly and captured every element of our day from the perspective of a guest, rather than as an onlooker or outsider. This created the intimate perspective we were hoping to capture. Some of our favourite moments are found in the candids and is testament to Jody's amazing eye.

We are extremely impressed with the photo collection we received and have had so much fun sharing them with our friends and families. ~

Darren and Katie | Buffalo Mountain Lodge Wedding | Banff, Alberta

There are not enough words to express how much I enjoyed my time with this beautiful couple. Katie and Darren are two of the most kind, considerate and loveable people you could ever be fortunate to meet. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them from our winter engagement session at Lake Louise and Emerald Lake, to their beautiful summer wedding at Buffalo Mountain Lodge

To start us off, I wanted to share some photos from our engagement session that took place at Lake Louise and Emerald Lake. We could have asked for better winter conditions. The sun was warm and inviting while we strolled Lake Louise, and Emerald Lake. These two soaked up the rays, each other and the incredibly beautiful mountain scenery we wandered in.

Their wedding day had a slightly different tone to it. We had rain, sun, moody skies and a whole lot of surprises throughout the day. The first surprise came when it started to pour rain just as  their ceremony was about to begin, and came to a full stop as they started sharing their beautiful vows to each other. The sun came out through the clouds and blessed them with some truly beautiful light as they exchanged their rings. It was quite the experience to witness.

The rest of their wedding unfolded beautifully. From moody skies during their portrait session to emotional speeches during their reception, to one of the most lovely, choreographed first dances I have ever photographed. All of it was simply a pleasure to photograph.

I loved their wedding day and getting to work with them as a couple. I feel very fortunate to have met, and now call them friends today. I hope you enjoy my favourite frames my time with them. Katie and Darren, I wish you both as much joy, love and happiness you felt on your wedding day, all of the days that you share together. You two are perfect for each other! xo

They shared some truly lovely words from their time with my services:

"Hey Jody! Wow! We were absolutely amazed by the photos. All of them are spectacular and tell every detail of our day. Looking at them, we were instantly transported back to the day and were even reminded of the small moments we were too overwhelmed to notice the first time.  There is absolutely no way for us to put into words how appreciative we are of your hard work and pure talent. We are so lucky to have found you! It was such a pleasure working with someone as passionate and warm as you are. You were always able to make us feel comfortable being photographed and your laugh is so infectious that it was impossible not to smile with you around. Thank you for helping us immortalize the memories of our special day! We are really looking forward to sharing these with our family and friends! We know everyone will love them as much as we do. ~ Much love, Katie and Darren."

I am so excited to photograph these two again for their wedding this summer near Calgary, AB. I hope you enjoy!

Emerald Lake Lodge Wedding | British Columbia | Intimate Wedding

I loved getting to be a part of Jess and Darren's intimate wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge in British Columbia this past summer. These two are so incredibly lovely together, it was a pleasure photographing their close knit feeling wedding, on a beautiful summer's day.

Here are my favourite photos from their wedding. We started the day with a stroll around the lake, followed by a lovely ceremony at the Emerald Lake Lodge Viewpoint, and finishing with a beautiful sunset near the spot they got married. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Emerald Lake Engagement Session | Morraine Lake Engagement Session

With temps reaching well into the negatives here in Golden, BC, I find myself craving warm sunshine and engagement sessions like this one. This was one of my favourite engagement sessions from 2016. I loved getting to work with Shannon and Noel for their impromptu engagement session in the Rockies. We started our session in beautiful Emerald Lake and finished just in time for a lovely, calm sunset at Morraine Lake.

Shannon and Joel were such a pleasure to photograph and work with. Being freshly engaged and feeling high on life, helped make this a truly beautiful experience to photograph. I hope you enjoy!

Stay warm out there! xo

A land of possibilities in Portland, Oregon | A photography workshop and road trip.

This past spring, I went to portland to attend an amazing photography workshop called Possible. I went with 2 fellow, and very talented, photographers from my hometown in Golden, BC, Lois and Noa of Lolo and Noa Photography. We decided to drive and enjoy a couple days of road tripping on our way to Portland before joining the workshop. There were lots of giggles, beautiful scenery, long hours in the car, and stories that were shared on route to Portland.

The workshop was hosted by a trio of talented photographers: Gabe McClintock, Ed Peers and Jesh De Rox. A good portion of the workshop focused on great discussion with each of our hosts, learning how they approach their craft within their chosen genre of photography. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and felt like I walked away with a better connection to the both the couples, and the work, I was hoping to bring forward in the coming wedding season. I am very pleased with what was created this year with my clients, and know a huge part of that came from my time at the Possible workshop. One of my highlight moments from the workshop, came when we were taken to a beautiful waterfall to put our learning to practice, photographing a beautiful couple just outside of Portland. I loved getting to photograph this couple, in the setting they provided, with lots of fellow enthusiastic photographers joyfully shooting their little hearts out. It was an awesome experience to say the least! Thank for being such incredible models for us, Narsete Photography!

My second highlight moment from the whole trip, was exploring Cannon Beach with a wonderful gaggle of excellent photographers, extremely keen to put our new skills to work on each other and practice what was learned during the workshop. I adored this day so much. I have always had a desire to do more one on one photography work with women. Tiara Brouse, of Tiara Brouse Photography was the lovely soul who allowed me to photographer her, and navigate one of my first experiences doing this. I couldn't have asked for a better subject to flex my creative muscles with, I absolutely love the photos we made together. Between her, the setting, the amazing photographers who joined for the evening, all of it was a memorable experience.

Lois, Noa and I began our travels back to BC, driving along the Oregon coastline, photographing each other along the way. We played with unicorn heads on the beach, cigarette smoke, and visiting adorable antique shops on the route back home. All in all it was an amazing trip! I am so grateful for the new perspectives gained, a head and heart that were full of fresh inspiration, and for the great company I got to share it with.

I really enjoyed taking these photos, so I thought I would share some here to show more of my personal photography work. I look forward to doing more of this in the future as I make plans to set out for Italy this coming spring to explore as much of this beautiful country as I can. It will be my first trip to Europe, and I am beyond thrilled to spend a month exploring Italy. I can't wait to photograph my through the country.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my personal photos! I hope your day is a bright one.

Warm wishes,

Jody, xo

Alisha and Brandon | Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Wedding | Golden, BC

I love blogging season, as it finally gives me the opportunity to share the amazing couples and stories I have had the pleasure of documenting over the past year. I have been looking forward to sharing this lovely couples wedding and engagement session.

I first had the pleasure of first working with Brandon and Alisha for their engagement photos early in July of 2016. It was a mere 3 weeks later that I got to photograph their beautiful, stormy wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, BC. I loved getting to photograph this couples sincere love for one another. They are so sweet, happy, affectionate and always so kind to each other. I decided to share a few of my favourite photographs from our engagement session in beautiful Peter Lougheed Provincial Park area. We had such a lovely sunset session on a warm summer evening!

Let's fast forward to their wedding day in Golden, BC. We had an entirely different experience, weather wise, but a truly memorable one nonetheless. Their day came with warm sunshine, golf ball sized hail, thunder and lightning, strong periods of rain and intense wind. It was true roller coaster of mountain weather all day. I loved it! One of my favourite moments was watching a huge storm swell dissipate moments before their ceremony, revealing the most austere, romantic, sweeping clouds as a backdrop to their very emotional ceremony. It was beyond beautiful.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to photograph this loving couple and am very pleased to share my favourite moments from their engagement session and wedding day. It was hard to choose images from their wedding day. I have a lot of favourites, as you will see scrolling through the images. I couldn't help myself, it was a lovely day.

Thank you so much, Alisha and Brandon, for bringing me along to capture this wonderful time in your lives. It was a pleasure. I wish you both continued love and affection for one another throughout your lives. I think I speak for everyone when I say you two are made for each other. Warmest wishes, xo

A year in Review | My favourite moments from 2016

2016 was a great year! So many wonderful couples joined me in 2016 to create one of my best years since starting my business in 2012. This was my first year going full time and what a wonderful year it has been.

Entering year 5, I am filled with lots of inspiration and new creatives ideas for photographing weddings all over Alberta and British Columbia in 2017. With 2017 close to being booked solid, I find myself feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for starting out on this path. I have been blessed with some really incredible couples and moments since starting my business, and I am so pleased to be gearing up for another busy year ahead.

Here are my favourite moments for wedding photography and engagement photography from 2016. I loved getting to work with each and every one of these couples. All of you were truly a gift to join and photograph. I thank you for bringing me along to capture some of your highlight moments in life. I wish all you the very best life has to offer.

Warmest wishes for wonderful year ahead in 2017. Happy New Year everyone!

Rimrock Resort Hotel Wedding | Banff, AB | Vintage Wedding

I loved getting to photograph this vintage style wedding at the Rimrock Resort Hotel in Banff, Alberta this past July 2016. Carlee and Mark wanted to have an intimate roof top wedding among close family and friends, surrounded by the the beautiful Canadian Rockies.

I also very much loved getting to photograph this couple within the beautiful Rimrock hotel. The couple had requested a first look within the hotel, and we found the perfect room to host this part of the day. Divas Cocktail Bar provided the perfect backdrop to host this very vintage looking wedding. It was a real treat getting to photograph this couple within a room full of black and white photographs of hollywood actors and actresses from past to present. It was the perfect backdrop for this couples first look.

These are some of my favourite photos from the day. Between the bubbly excitement the couple felt for each other getting married, to the lovely ceremony Robin White provided on a beautiful rooftop patio in the sun, all of it was a joy to photograph.

Once the ceremony and diner had passed, the couple asked for one more bride/groom portrait session at sunset. We could not have asked for better conditions for this. We had sunshine, rainbows, a beautiful sunset bride/groom portrait session and a full mood rising on a warm, clear evening in the Rockies. To add to this magic, it was a true pleasure to get to photograph such a loving couple within all of this. Thank you for bringing me along to capture your intimate wedding within the beautiful Canadian Rockies, Carlee and Mark. I wish you both a life of love and happiness together. xo

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Wedding | Golden, BC | June 2016

I am so pleased I got to meet and get to know Brendan and Basia as a couple. These are two of the most kind, genuine and loving couples I have had the pleasure of working with. I am so excited to finally be able to share their beautiful Kicking Horse Mountain Resort wedding from June this year.

I first had the pleasure of photographing these adventurous souls for their engagement session back in June 2015. We had an awesome alpine session in Kananaskis Country, AB. We hiked up to this beautiful area called West Wind Pass. It is still one of my favourite sessions I have done with a couple.

Let's fast forward to their wedding day, which took place this past June on a beautiful summers day in Golden, BC. Their ceremony and reception took place at the always beautiful Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Eagles Eye Restaurant. You really can not go wrong when your wedding takes place at 7700 feet, with a 360 degree panorama of mountains, a beautiful couple and an amazing array of family and friends who shared the day with them. I loved this wedding so much!

The couple each got ready at different homes at the base of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. After doing some portraits around the base of the resort, it was finally time to head up on the chair lift and drink some champagne to further welcome the building excitement for their ceremony in the clouds.

I would have to say my favourite part of their day came with the reception. These two know how to party, ski bum style. Just the way I like it! Rather than having the classic clinking of the glasses to make the couple kiss, these two brought is a shotski instead. Meaning, any time you wanted to make the couple kiss, they had to make their way to the head table and do a shot of this delicious polish alcohol out of a shot glass imbedded in a ski. I have far too many photos of this (some really funny ones!) to share here, but you get the idea. It was great!

I must also add that we had an incredibly beautiful sunset up there and took advantage of it as often as we could to photograph and appreciate it. I must say, I am so pleased to call this my home town venue. I love living in Golden, BC, and I really love photographing weddings at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

Here are a collection of my favourite moments from their wedding day. Thank you so much, Brendan and Basia, for bringing me along to capture both your adventurous spirits on our engagement session, and your beautiful wedding day in the clouds. You both were such a pleasure to work with. I loved every moment of our time together. I wish you both the very best! xo

Special thank you to Julie Kundrik, of Mountain Lifestyle Massage Therapyfor her excellent assistant skills. I love having you join me for weddings, Julie! xo
