I love this time of year! It's so festive and cosy. Winter is a great time to look back on a year and reflect on all that was learned, and creating intentions for change with the upcoming year.
This was a pretty big year on my end, both personally and professionally. At this particular moment, I am most proud of one major valley I am climbing out of. Last winter, I was skiing at my favourite resort, (Kicking Horse Mountain Resort) and took a pretty big tumble down a couloir and tore a number of ligaments and cartilage in my knee. Needless to say, this injury was going to teach me some life lessons, and I wasn't ready to go back to school if you know what I mean... It took some time to accept that life was going to be a bit different in order to heal, and being there for couples was going to require some creative adjustments. All in all, I am really proud of how this year unfolded given the circumstances. I am also proud of the work that was created within it. Now that it is nearly a year later, and I am now 2 months post knee surgery, it is an extremely motivating feeling knowing I am on the up and mending for a return to activity. I am so grateful for the support from friends, family and of course my amazingly understanding/encouraging couples. I truly couldn't have gotten through this year with out it!
Now onto the side of highlights! Last April, I got to go on a dream trip to Italy. This was a country I have wanted to visit since my teens. I took my time backpacking from Rome to Cortona, Sienna, Florence, Verona, Lake Garda, and Cinque Terre. All of it was incredible and I can't wait to do another solo trip backpacking in Europe this spring! I promise I will share photos from Italy, as soon as they are edited. :)
Other highlights from 2017 include my business turing 5 years old, I am so proud of that first milestone! I am so excited for what I feel will be a great year ahead. I am so happy to be on the mend, and getting back to a more adventurous lifestyle. I am even more excited to combine my love of adventure with people photography in the mountains and abroad. I have a few opportunities this year with weddings and portrait sessions that are "off the beaten path", or in more remote/wilderness feeling locations in nature. I love going to new, and very vast feeling places to do sessions in the mountains. It sings to my roots of being a hiking guide leading groups through the Canadian Rockies. I love getting to amalgamate those to two worlds when I can. I am also super excited about two opportunities to go overseas for a wedding in Ireland, and a portrait session in Norway for 2018. This will be my first year with international weddings, and I couldn't be more excited for it! I have always wanted to combine my love of travel with my passion for photographing weddings and portrait sessions. It could be the start of more to come! Another cool highlight was making the list of top wedding photographers within Canada through the Professional Wedding Photographer of Canada. It was a real honour seeing my name among so many photographers I admire and appreciate. I am pretty keen to see where this can go in 2018!
What I am most grateful for from this past year, are the incredible couples I got to work with. I feel like I got to witness some really beautiful love stories, heart centered ceremonies, and so much joy with love. Not to mention the incredible places I got to go too! Whether it was a mountain top wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, the Columbia Icefields to dance among waterfalls and wander their gigantic mountains, Bow Lake for a crisp morning sunrise, Moraine Lake to bask in the beauty of the surrounding ten peaks, or take a helicopter ride up into the alpine to feel dwarfed by our mountains. All of it, always felt like a gift to share with couples. To say I love this path is an understatement. I feel pretty blessed by the people and places I am fortunate to visit. Thank you!
Here are my favourite moments/photos from 2017. I am pretty keen to get blogging and sharing more from below. I hope you enjoy a taste for now!
Much love, gratitude and best wishes for an amazing 2018!
PS: If you make it all the way to the end, you'll get to see one of my most favourite subjects to photograph. :) Cheers!
