My Favourite Photos from 2018 - The Canadian Rockies and Beyond

2018 was a great, big, beautiful year. One I will never forget. This has been a great year for documenting weddings, elopements and couples who felt like a lovely match to the style I use to photograph connections and people in love. I feel humbled and incredibly blessed by all of the people I got to work with in Canada and abroad. My gratitude for your trust when documenting an intimate moment runs deep, and leaves me ever fulfilled to be on this path with photography. Thank you for sharing such a lovely space to create from.

Getting to visit Ireland and photograph my first destination wedding would be another highlight for the year. I can not wait to share this wedding! You’ll find a healthy selection of images from this wedding mid pack below. Between this amazing wedding, and the 29 other incredible weddings that took place all over the Rockies, I will be delightfully busy updating my blog with this years, and last years (2017) weddings. It will be great to share some fresh, new work.

Another major highlight for the year was getting to travel more. Getting to visit Tofino, Ireland, New York, and then San Francisco were all places I have longed to visit. I have shared a couple photos from some of these places below, and plan to do more personal photography projects that may make an appearance on this site in the future.

With this being the most full year I have had in the past 6 years of business, a lot of important aspects of life were left a bit short. As much as I love this path, I also love life and the ever present pursuit of a work life balance that provides enough rest to really dig deep and keep pushing myself as an artist. This year, I will be making a significant goal to attain that balance and level out how much I work vs how much I live and create for me. 2019 is still a full year, one I am very excited to be a part of. I am equally excited to explore inviting time with friends & family, outdoor recreation, creative personal projects, and above all else ~ time for self care to come back into the picture. We are all deserving of taking great care of ourselves in any capacity we can create. The idea is to create it from a place of worthiness.

Another major goal, one I have been building towards for a couple years now, is to do a full and complete rebrand of my business. I am excited to get started on a fresh new look for my website, blog, and new, exciting options for couples hiring me for the coming years. With all of the busyness mentioned above, there are nearly 60 weddings that only a few photos have been shared from each on social media. It will be great to have the time to thoughtfully share some of my favourite work from the past two years.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pop by and see some of my favourite images from the past year. I apologize for the quantity, I wanted to dabble a few personal photos throughout. I am so excited to invite new experiences to come in 2019, both professionally and personally. I am sending you all a warm, heartfelt wish for a wonderful and fulfilling year ahead. Thank you so very much for your support!

Much love,

Jody

Jess and Cameron | Lake Louise Elopement | Lake Louise, AB Wedding

I love intimate weddings in inclimate weather. So moody, beautiful and dramatic. Add in a little Lake Louise magic and you've got one beautiful Elopement!

I loved getting to photograph this elopement. Between the calmness of Lake Louise, the snow and rain that gently fell and the loving notions that flowed with ease between Jess and Cameron, all of it was wonderful to photograph. Here are my favourite photos from their lovely elopement at Chateau Lake Louise, followed by a portrait session along Emerald Lake road.

Thank you for bringing me along to capture your elopement, Jess and Cameron! xo

Katie and Dan | Storm Mountain Lodge Elopement | Banff National Park Wedding

I absolutely loved being a part of this beautiful elopement at Storm Mountain Lodge in Banff National Park! Katie and Dan were absolute dreams to work with. This lovely couple reached out from Australia seeking an intimate environment, in the Canadian Rockies, for their elopement as a gift to each other for their 10 year anniversary of being together. Storm Mountain Lodge came to my mind immediately. They also wanted a tour da force experience with photography in the Rockies, and that is exactly what we did together. We started in Kootenay National Park and then finished with a few sites in Banff National Park before ending our time together. Any where we went, Katie's gorgeous gold dress shone like a bright light on a cool November day. What a fun dress to photograph! :)

Here are my most favourite images from their elopement. I hope you enjoy them! A huge thank you to Katie and Dan for bringing me along to capture this lovely time in your lives. I'll never forget you both. :)

Here's to many more blog posts to come! :)

Melissa and Kevin | Squamish, BC Wedding | Intimate Family Wedding

I am so pleased to finally be able to share this lovely destination wedding from Squamish, BC on the blog today! I loved being a part of this intimate, backyard wedding for a few reasons. Mel (the bride) and I have been friends for a number of years, and I was thrilled to be a part of her special day. Two, Kevin (the groom) is an amazing man! These two have been together for many years and have created quite a life for themselves in a beautiful little corner, close to the spit in Squamish. I've always loved their home, and was super excited to photograph a backyard wedding for them. And three, I love to travel for weddings! It was so exciting boarding a plane and flying to a brand new area to photograph an intimate wedding. It was a pleasure joining them for their wedding weekend, photographing their rehearsal dinner and full wedding day.

Here are my favourite images from my time with them. I had a really hard time narrowing it down. I could have shared their whole collection. These two are surrounded by incredible family and friends. All of them sharing in the common delight of finally seeing these two marry each other.

Mel and Kevin, I hope you two look back and smile at your day with fond memories. Memories of hilarious mishaps during the ceremony ;), the beautiful sunny day you two were blessed with, the amazing food and ice cream truck (seriously, it was the best!) and the overwhelming feelings of love and support your community, close friends and family. To say it was an honour capturing your day, merely scratches the surface. It was a privilege. I wish you both the absolute best life can send your way! xo

They imparted some truly lovely words from their time with me. Thank you for the kind testimonial, Mel and Kevin!

"Working with Jody was fantastic! She put Kevin and I at ease and made our experience in front of the camera both comfortable and super fun! Her knowledge of the process was extremely helpful, being that this was our first time getting married . We trusted Jody to guide us and relied heavily on her when making key decisions regarding the timing of our day. Jody's ability to direct us, our wedding party and our guests was exceptional.

She blended into our wedding perfectly and captured every element of our day from the perspective of a guest, rather than as an onlooker or outsider. This created the intimate perspective we were hoping to capture. Some of our favourite moments are found in the candids and is testament to Jody's amazing eye.

We are extremely impressed with the photo collection we received and have had so much fun sharing them with our friends and families. ~

A year in Review | My favourite moments from 2016

2016 was a great year! So many wonderful couples joined me in 2016 to create one of my best years since starting my business in 2012. This was my first year going full time and what a wonderful year it has been.

Entering year 5, I am filled with lots of inspiration and new creatives ideas for photographing weddings all over Alberta and British Columbia in 2017. With 2017 close to being booked solid, I find myself feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for starting out on this path. I have been blessed with some really incredible couples and moments since starting my business, and I am so pleased to be gearing up for another busy year ahead.

Here are my favourite moments for wedding photography and engagement photography from 2016. I loved getting to work with each and every one of these couples. All of you were truly a gift to join and photograph. I thank you for bringing me along to capture some of your highlight moments in life. I wish all you the very best life has to offer.

Warmest wishes for wonderful year ahead in 2017. Happy New Year everyone!

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Wedding | Golden, BC | June 2016

I am so pleased I got to meet and get to know Brendan and Basia as a couple. These are two of the most kind, genuine and loving couples I have had the pleasure of working with. I am so excited to finally be able to share their beautiful Kicking Horse Mountain Resort wedding from June this year.

I first had the pleasure of photographing these adventurous souls for their engagement session back in June 2015. We had an awesome alpine session in Kananaskis Country, AB. We hiked up to this beautiful area called West Wind Pass. It is still one of my favourite sessions I have done with a couple.

Let's fast forward to their wedding day, which took place this past June on a beautiful summers day in Golden, BC. Their ceremony and reception took place at the always beautiful Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Eagles Eye Restaurant. You really can not go wrong when your wedding takes place at 7700 feet, with a 360 degree panorama of mountains, a beautiful couple and an amazing array of family and friends who shared the day with them. I loved this wedding so much!

The couple each got ready at different homes at the base of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. After doing some portraits around the base of the resort, it was finally time to head up on the chair lift and drink some champagne to further welcome the building excitement for their ceremony in the clouds.

I would have to say my favourite part of their day came with the reception. These two know how to party, ski bum style. Just the way I like it! Rather than having the classic clinking of the glasses to make the couple kiss, these two brought is a shotski instead. Meaning, any time you wanted to make the couple kiss, they had to make their way to the head table and do a shot of this delicious polish alcohol out of a shot glass imbedded in a ski. I have far too many photos of this (some really funny ones!) to share here, but you get the idea. It was great!

I must also add that we had an incredibly beautiful sunset up there and took advantage of it as often as we could to photograph and appreciate it. I must say, I am so pleased to call this my home town venue. I love living in Golden, BC, and I really love photographing weddings at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

Here are a collection of my favourite moments from their wedding day. Thank you so much, Brendan and Basia, for bringing me along to capture both your adventurous spirits on our engagement session, and your beautiful wedding day in the clouds. You both were such a pleasure to work with. I loved every moment of our time together. I wish you both the very best! xo

Kananaskis Country, Alberta ~ Elopement at Mount Engadine Lodge

The season of blogging is finally here! It is so nice to have the time to start sharing all of the wonderful weddings and engagement sessions I got to be a part of this past spring, summer and fall. This has been a great year for Jody Goodwin Photography!

To start of this years weddings, here is a sweet engagement session and elopement I had the pleasure of joining in Kananaskis country area this past May. Sara and Justin are both avid outdoors people who wanted a wedding and engagement session that reflected how they share their time in the mountains.

This lovely, earthy elopement was beautifully based at Mount Engadine Lodge along The Smith Dorrien highway in Kananskis country. If you have never had the chance to visit this gorgeous little nook in the mountains, you are missing out! It is quaint, cozy and the perfect place to host a small/intimate mountain wedding away from the hustle and bustle of cities.

I hope you enjoy this collection of images from both their engagement session, which also took place near Mount Engadine Lodge, and their wedding. I wish you both the very best, Sara and Justin. Thank you for bringing me along to capture your love of the mountains, nature and each other. xo

Beautiful Fall Wedding held at McKenzie Farm in Edmonton, Alberta | Destination Wedding Photography

Now this was a wedding for the memory bank! This has to be one of the sweetest, most kind, funny, loving, talented and strong couples I have had the immense pleasure of photographing. They are so great! I am so pleased to finally be able to share the magic from their special wedding day at their lovely family farm, McKenzie Farm, near Edmonton, Alberta.

The day started with lots of laughs at the grooms getting ready location. Ryan, thoughtfully, got each of his groomsmen baseball bats that we later took to a park and played around with them. These guys are so awesome! I mean cream of the crop kind of guys. Super funny, kind, always thinking of how to help make the most of Ryan's day. They were an awesome crew to work with!

Bri is one heck of a lady herself. Ironman triathlete, Naturopathic Doctor and what I think is her best quality, a heart of gold. This lady smiles, and the whole room lights up. Seriously they are an amazing couple!

Their day was so beautiful! The fall colours were just starting to come out, the weather was warm and sunny, the scenery could not have been more intimate and beautiful. All of their guests came prepared to laugh, celebrate and be witness to a really loving union between two great souls. The weather held for us all day until the very end of our Bride/Groom portrait session. At that time, the rains came and cooled the day down leading us into one heck of a great reception and party!

I feel so blessed to have been a part of their great day. Here are my favourite images from their wedding. I hope you enjoy it!

Bri and Ryan, my deepest gratitude to you both for having me come along and capture your beautiful union. I wish you both so much joy, love and happiness on your journey together. Much love to you both! xoxo
