My Favourite Photos from 2018 - The Canadian Rockies and Beyond

2018 was a great, big, beautiful year. One I will never forget. This has been a great year for documenting weddings, elopements and couples who felt like a lovely match to the style I use to photograph connections and people in love. I feel humbled and incredibly blessed by all of the people I got to work with in Canada and abroad. My gratitude for your trust when documenting an intimate moment runs deep, and leaves me ever fulfilled to be on this path with photography. Thank you for sharing such a lovely space to create from.

Getting to visit Ireland and photograph my first destination wedding would be another highlight for the year. I can not wait to share this wedding! You’ll find a healthy selection of images from this wedding mid pack below. Between this amazing wedding, and the 29 other incredible weddings that took place all over the Rockies, I will be delightfully busy updating my blog with this years, and last years (2017) weddings. It will be great to share some fresh, new work.

Another major highlight for the year was getting to travel more. Getting to visit Tofino, Ireland, New York, and then San Francisco were all places I have longed to visit. I have shared a couple photos from some of these places below, and plan to do more personal photography projects that may make an appearance on this site in the future.

With this being the most full year I have had in the past 6 years of business, a lot of important aspects of life were left a bit short. As much as I love this path, I also love life and the ever present pursuit of a work life balance that provides enough rest to really dig deep and keep pushing myself as an artist. This year, I will be making a significant goal to attain that balance and level out how much I work vs how much I live and create for me. 2019 is still a full year, one I am very excited to be a part of. I am equally excited to explore inviting time with friends & family, outdoor recreation, creative personal projects, and above all else ~ time for self care to come back into the picture. We are all deserving of taking great care of ourselves in any capacity we can create. The idea is to create it from a place of worthiness.

Another major goal, one I have been building towards for a couple years now, is to do a full and complete rebrand of my business. I am excited to get started on a fresh new look for my website, blog, and new, exciting options for couples hiring me for the coming years. With all of the busyness mentioned above, there are nearly 60 weddings that only a few photos have been shared from each on social media. It will be great to have the time to thoughtfully share some of my favourite work from the past two years.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pop by and see some of my favourite images from the past year. I apologize for the quantity, I wanted to dabble a few personal photos throughout. I am so excited to invite new experiences to come in 2019, both professionally and personally. I am sending you all a warm, heartfelt wish for a wonderful and fulfilling year ahead. Thank you so very much for your support!

Much love,

Jody

Darren and Katie | Buffalo Mountain Lodge Wedding | Banff, Alberta

There are not enough words to express how much I enjoyed my time with this beautiful couple. Katie and Darren are two of the most kind, considerate and loveable people you could ever be fortunate to meet. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them from our winter engagement session at Lake Louise and Emerald Lake, to their beautiful summer wedding at Buffalo Mountain Lodge

To start us off, I wanted to share some photos from our engagement session that took place at Lake Louise and Emerald Lake. We could have asked for better winter conditions. The sun was warm and inviting while we strolled Lake Louise, and Emerald Lake. These two soaked up the rays, each other and the incredibly beautiful mountain scenery we wandered in.

Their wedding day had a slightly different tone to it. We had rain, sun, moody skies and a whole lot of surprises throughout the day. The first surprise came when it started to pour rain just as  their ceremony was about to begin, and came to a full stop as they started sharing their beautiful vows to each other. The sun came out through the clouds and blessed them with some truly beautiful light as they exchanged their rings. It was quite the experience to witness.

The rest of their wedding unfolded beautifully. From moody skies during their portrait session to emotional speeches during their reception, to one of the most lovely, choreographed first dances I have ever photographed. All of it was simply a pleasure to photograph.

I loved their wedding day and getting to work with them as a couple. I feel very fortunate to have met, and now call them friends today. I hope you enjoy my favourite frames my time with them. Katie and Darren, I wish you both as much joy, love and happiness you felt on your wedding day, all of the days that you share together. You two are perfect for each other! xo

They shared some truly lovely words from their time with my services:

"Hey Jody! Wow! We were absolutely amazed by the photos. All of them are spectacular and tell every detail of our day. Looking at them, we were instantly transported back to the day and were even reminded of the small moments we were too overwhelmed to notice the first time.  There is absolutely no way for us to put into words how appreciative we are of your hard work and pure talent. We are so lucky to have found you! It was such a pleasure working with someone as passionate and warm as you are. You were always able to make us feel comfortable being photographed and your laugh is so infectious that it was impossible not to smile with you around. Thank you for helping us immortalize the memories of our special day! We are really looking forward to sharing these with our family and friends! We know everyone will love them as much as we do. ~ Much love, Katie and Darren."

Special thanks to Lara Shea, of Shea Studios, for offering some amazing help during their wedding day. It was a pleasure having you along to keep us all giggling, and me dry during the ceremony. ;)

Emerald Lake Lodge Wedding | British Columbia | Intimate Wedding

I loved getting to be a part of Jess and Darren's intimate wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge in British Columbia this past summer. These two are so incredibly lovely together, it was a pleasure photographing their close knit feeling wedding, on a beautiful summer's day.

Here are my favourite photos from their wedding. We started the day with a stroll around the lake, followed by a lovely ceremony at the Emerald Lake Lodge Viewpoint, and finishing with a beautiful sunset near the spot they got married. I hope you enjoy the photos!

So much gratitude for getting to document your lovely day, Jess and Darren! I wish you both continued love for one another and many well wishes on your journey through life together. xo
