My Favourite Photos from 2018 - The Canadian Rockies and Beyond

2018 was a great, big, beautiful year. One I will never forget. This has been a great year for documenting weddings, elopements and couples who felt like a lovely match to the style I use to photograph connections and people in love. I feel humbled and incredibly blessed by all of the people I got to work with in Canada and abroad. My gratitude for your trust when documenting an intimate moment runs deep, and leaves me ever fulfilled to be on this path with photography. Thank you for sharing such a lovely space to create from.

Getting to visit Ireland and photograph my first destination wedding would be another highlight for the year. I can not wait to share this wedding! You’ll find a healthy selection of images from this wedding mid pack below. Between this amazing wedding, and the 29 other incredible weddings that took place all over the Rockies, I will be delightfully busy updating my blog with this years, and last years (2017) weddings. It will be great to share some fresh, new work.

Another major highlight for the year was getting to travel more. Getting to visit Tofino, Ireland, New York, and then San Francisco were all places I have longed to visit. I have shared a couple photos from some of these places below, and plan to do more personal photography projects that may make an appearance on this site in the future.

With this being the most full year I have had in the past 6 years of business, a lot of important aspects of life were left a bit short. As much as I love this path, I also love life and the ever present pursuit of a work life balance that provides enough rest to really dig deep and keep pushing myself as an artist. This year, I will be making a significant goal to attain that balance and level out how much I work vs how much I live and create for me. 2019 is still a full year, one I am very excited to be a part of. I am equally excited to explore inviting time with friends & family, outdoor recreation, creative personal projects, and above all else ~ time for self care to come back into the picture. We are all deserving of taking great care of ourselves in any capacity we can create. The idea is to create it from a place of worthiness.

Another major goal, one I have been building towards for a couple years now, is to do a full and complete rebrand of my business. I am excited to get started on a fresh new look for my website, blog, and new, exciting options for couples hiring me for the coming years. With all of the busyness mentioned above, there are nearly 60 weddings that only a few photos have been shared from each on social media. It will be great to have the time to thoughtfully share some of my favourite work from the past two years.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pop by and see some of my favourite images from the past year. I apologize for the quantity, I wanted to dabble a few personal photos throughout. I am so excited to invite new experiences to come in 2019, both professionally and personally. I am sending you all a warm, heartfelt wish for a wonderful and fulfilling year ahead. Thank you so very much for your support!

Much love,

Jody

Darren and Katie | Buffalo Mountain Lodge Wedding | Banff, Alberta

There are not enough words to express how much I enjoyed my time with this beautiful couple. Katie and Darren are two of the most kind, considerate and loveable people you could ever be fortunate to meet. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them from our winter engagement session at Lake Louise and Emerald Lake, to their beautiful summer wedding at Buffalo Mountain Lodge

To start us off, I wanted to share some photos from our engagement session that took place at Lake Louise and Emerald Lake. We could have asked for better winter conditions. The sun was warm and inviting while we strolled Lake Louise, and Emerald Lake. These two soaked up the rays, each other and the incredibly beautiful mountain scenery we wandered in.

Their wedding day had a slightly different tone to it. We had rain, sun, moody skies and a whole lot of surprises throughout the day. The first surprise came when it started to pour rain just as  their ceremony was about to begin, and came to a full stop as they started sharing their beautiful vows to each other. The sun came out through the clouds and blessed them with some truly beautiful light as they exchanged their rings. It was quite the experience to witness.

The rest of their wedding unfolded beautifully. From moody skies during their portrait session to emotional speeches during their reception, to one of the most lovely, choreographed first dances I have ever photographed. All of it was simply a pleasure to photograph.

I loved their wedding day and getting to work with them as a couple. I feel very fortunate to have met, and now call them friends today. I hope you enjoy my favourite frames my time with them. Katie and Darren, I wish you both as much joy, love and happiness you felt on your wedding day, all of the days that you share together. You two are perfect for each other! xo

They shared some truly lovely words from their time with my services:

"Hey Jody! Wow! We were absolutely amazed by the photos. All of them are spectacular and tell every detail of our day. Looking at them, we were instantly transported back to the day and were even reminded of the small moments we were too overwhelmed to notice the first time.  There is absolutely no way for us to put into words how appreciative we are of your hard work and pure talent. We are so lucky to have found you! It was such a pleasure working with someone as passionate and warm as you are. You were always able to make us feel comfortable being photographed and your laugh is so infectious that it was impossible not to smile with you around. Thank you for helping us immortalize the memories of our special day! We are really looking forward to sharing these with our family and friends! We know everyone will love them as much as we do. ~ Much love, Katie and Darren."

Special thanks to Lara Shea, of Shea Studios, for offering some amazing help during their wedding day. It was a pleasure having you along to keep us all giggling, and me dry during the ceremony. ;)

Banff Engagement Session | Summer Engagement Sessions | Banff, AB

I loved this engagement session with Mike and Jen so much! We had a lovely time exploring areas within and around Lake Minnewanka for a lovely late summer session. I am so pleased I got to work with these two beautiful people. Here are my favourite images from our time together. I am so excited to photograph these two again for their wedding this summer near Calgary, AB. I hope you enjoy!

Warm wishes, xo

Emerald Lake Engagement Session | Morraine Lake Engagement Session

With temps reaching well into the negatives here in Golden, BC, I find myself craving warm sunshine and engagement sessions like this one. This was one of my favourite engagement sessions from 2016. I loved getting to work with Shannon and Noel for their impromptu engagement session in the Rockies. We started our session in beautiful Emerald Lake and finished just in time for a lovely, calm sunset at Morraine Lake.

Shannon and Joel were such a pleasure to photograph and work with. Being freshly engaged and feeling high on life, helped make this a truly beautiful experience to photograph. I hope you enjoy!

Stay warm out there! xo

Alisha and Brandon | Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Wedding | Golden, BC

I love blogging season, as it finally gives me the opportunity to share the amazing couples and stories I have had the pleasure of documenting over the past year. I have been looking forward to sharing this lovely couples wedding and engagement session.

I first had the pleasure of first working with Brandon and Alisha for their engagement photos early in July of 2016. It was a mere 3 weeks later that I got to photograph their beautiful, stormy wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, BC. I loved getting to photograph this couples sincere love for one another. They are so sweet, happy, affectionate and always so kind to each other. I decided to share a few of my favourite photographs from our engagement session in beautiful Peter Lougheed Provincial Park area. We had such a lovely sunset session on a warm summer evening!

Let's fast forward to their wedding day in Golden, BC. We had an entirely different experience, weather wise, but a truly memorable one nonetheless. Their day came with warm sunshine, golf ball sized hail, thunder and lightning, strong periods of rain and intense wind. It was true roller coaster of mountain weather all day. I loved it! One of my favourite moments was watching a huge storm swell dissipate moments before their ceremony, revealing the most austere, romantic, sweeping clouds as a backdrop to their very emotional ceremony. It was beyond beautiful.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to photograph this loving couple and am very pleased to share my favourite moments from their engagement session and wedding day. It was hard to choose images from their wedding day. I have a lot of favourites, as you will see scrolling through the images. I couldn't help myself, it was a lovely day.

Thank you so much, Alisha and Brandon, for bringing me along to capture this wonderful time in your lives. It was a pleasure. I wish you both continued love and affection for one another throughout your lives. I think I speak for everyone when I say you two are made for each other. Warmest wishes, xo

A personal thank you to Julie Kundrik, my trusty assistant, for providing excellent help with their wedding day. We couldn't have done it without you! xo

A year in Review | My favourite moments from 2016

2016 was a great year! So many wonderful couples joined me in 2016 to create one of my best years since starting my business in 2012. This was my first year going full time and what a wonderful year it has been.

Entering year 5, I am filled with lots of inspiration and new creatives ideas for photographing weddings all over Alberta and British Columbia in 2017. With 2017 close to being booked solid, I find myself feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for starting out on this path. I have been blessed with some really incredible couples and moments since starting my business, and I am so pleased to be gearing up for another busy year ahead.

Here are my favourite moments for wedding photography and engagement photography from 2016. I loved getting to work with each and every one of these couples. All of you were truly a gift to join and photograph. I thank you for bringing me along to capture some of your highlight moments in life. I wish all you the very best life has to offer.

Warmest wishes for wonderful year ahead in 2017. Happy New Year everyone!

Engagement Photography

Alpine Engagement Session | Kananaskis Country, AB

I loved this summer engagement session with Brendan and Basia so much! They were such a treat to work with! When we'd first started talking about engagement photos, we were really keen to go up in the mountains for a session to showcase their love of the Canadian Rockies. We waited for a good weather window, and wandered up into the alpine of Kananaskis country, Alberta, to enjoy a sunset engagement session amongst the beautiful peaks.

The evening was perfect. Little to no wind, warm temperatures and incredible views at every turn. We were all very pleased, especially the dog! I love winter very much, but these summery engagement photos have me craving the warmth of the sun, and the opportunity to get up high in the mountains to do more of this style of engagement photos. I love adventurous souls!

Super excited to work with these two beautiful beings again this coming June for their mountain top wedding held at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. I am super excited to photograph that gorgeous venue again, and get to work with Brendan and Basia for their very special date in the clouds. It will be great!

I hope you're all finding ways to play in the winter sun! Enjoy the photos! xo

My Favourite Moments from 2015 ~ A Year in Review

I love this time of year. I love getting to look back and reflect on all the great times you shared with friends, the adventures you par took in and the work that you are proud to share. There is much to be grateful for!

I'm happy to share a sample of my favourite moments and images from 2015. The collection starts with some images from engagement sessions, then wedding photography, and finishes with a few lifestyle photos. It is a mere sample of the many blogs yet to come. I look forward to sharing more images, and the stories that go with them, in the new year.

From getting to photograph weddings and portraiture sessions in Golden BC, Edmonton AB and a variety of places within Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise and Kananaskis country; it really has been a great year for engagement photography, wedding photography and lifestyle photography. Looking back on these photos I can not help but feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It feels pretty great to have had the opportunity to meet these wonderful people, get to know a bit of their story and show them how beautiful they are. I know this sounds corny, possibly a bit too bubbly, but I really love this path. Deeply. Getting to share this passion with so many wonderful people has left me enormously happy, grateful and driven to do better each year. 2015 has been a great year, and I am super pumped to see what is in store for 2016.

To each and everyone of you, Thank You for bringing me along to share in your intimate celebrations. It has meant the world to me to get to photograph your special occasion. I wish you all nothing but the very best life has to offer and a continued path of love, joy and happiness together.

Happy New Year and New Beginnings!

Warmest regards, xo

Silvertip Resort Wedding - Canmore, Alberta

I am super excited to share both the engagement and wedding photos I took from my time with Teegan and Aaron this past year! They were such a pleasure to work with! They made my job very easy to show the love they feel for each other. So many giggles, long and loving stares, and cuddles to photograph. Just the way I like it!

Their wedding day proved to be nothing less. Lots of love was in the air on their very special wedding day on July 10th, 2015. The temps were warm, the sun came and went with the clouds, it was a perfect day to get married in Canmore, Alberta. I love shooting weddings at Silvertip Resort. The backdrop, the gazebo, the grounds, all of it is a pleasure to photograph.

Along with all of the beauty that came with their day, Teegan and Aaron also brought along a whole lot of fun and some shenanigans to boot. I love when couples come up with a group activity the wedding party can partake in during their photo session. For this particular moment, they decided they wanted to shot gun beers for a photo. Lots of giggles, some apprehension and little bit of competition came to the table for this particular event. So much fun!

Teegan and Aaron also had a great way of discouraging/encouraging kisses during the reception. They created a large die that you had to roll, and then perform whatever action presented in front of all the guests. It was brilliant! Lots of fun to watch and photograph!

The day ended with a beautiful sunset on the grounds at Silvertip. It was the perfect ending to a great wedding in Canmore. Thank you so much Teegan and Aaron for bringing me along to capture your wedding day. I loved getting to laugh, celebrate and document your day. I wish you both the very best together, and I am so excited to see you guys grow as a beautiful family. Warmest wishes for your next chapter. xo

I would also like to thank Andrew Lunt Photography for his assistance during their beautiful day. Your help was much appreciated!
