Katie and Dan | Storm Mountain Lodge Elopement | Banff National Park Wedding

I absolutely loved being a part of this beautiful elopement at Storm Mountain Lodge in Banff National Park! Katie and Dan were absolute dreams to work with. This lovely couple reached out from Australia seeking an intimate environment, in the Canadian Rockies, for their elopement as a gift to each other for their 10 year anniversary of being together. Storm Mountain Lodge came to my mind immediately. They also wanted a tour da force experience with photography in the Rockies, and that is exactly what we did together. We started in Kootenay National Park and then finished with a few sites in Banff National Park before ending our time together. Any where we went, Katie's gorgeous gold dress shone like a bright light on a cool November day. What a fun dress to photograph! :)

Here are my most favourite images from their elopement. I hope you enjoy them! A huge thank you to Katie and Dan for bringing me along to capture this lovely time in your lives. I'll never forget you both. :)

Here's to many more blog posts to come! :)

Emerald Lake Engagement Session | Morraine Lake Engagement Session

With temps reaching well into the negatives here in Golden, BC, I find myself craving warm sunshine and engagement sessions like this one. This was one of my favourite engagement sessions from 2016. I loved getting to work with Shannon and Noel for their impromptu engagement session in the Rockies. We started our session in beautiful Emerald Lake and finished just in time for a lovely, calm sunset at Morraine Lake.

Shannon and Joel were such a pleasure to photograph and work with. Being freshly engaged and feeling high on life, helped make this a truly beautiful experience to photograph. I hope you enjoy!

Stay warm out there! xo

Kananaskis Country, Alberta ~ Elopement at Mount Engadine Lodge

The season of blogging is finally here! It is so nice to have the time to start sharing all of the wonderful weddings and engagement sessions I got to be a part of this past spring, summer and fall. This has been a great year for Jody Goodwin Photography!

To start of this years weddings, here is a sweet engagement session and elopement I had the pleasure of joining in Kananaskis country area this past May. Sara and Justin are both avid outdoors people who wanted a wedding and engagement session that reflected how they share their time in the mountains.

This lovely, earthy elopement was beautifully based at Mount Engadine Lodge along The Smith Dorrien highway in Kananskis country. If you have never had the chance to visit this gorgeous little nook in the mountains, you are missing out! It is quaint, cozy and the perfect place to host a small/intimate mountain wedding away from the hustle and bustle of cities.

I hope you enjoy this collection of images from both their engagement session, which also took place near Mount Engadine Lodge, and their wedding. I wish you both the very best, Sara and Justin. Thank you for bringing me along to capture your love of the mountains, nature and each other. xo

My Favourite Moments from 2015 ~ A Year in Review

I love this time of year. I love getting to look back and reflect on all the great times you shared with friends, the adventures you par took in and the work that you are proud to share. There is much to be grateful for!

I'm happy to share a sample of my favourite moments and images from 2015. The collection starts with some images from engagement sessions, then wedding photography, and finishes with a few lifestyle photos. It is a mere sample of the many blogs yet to come. I look forward to sharing more images, and the stories that go with them, in the new year.

From getting to photograph weddings and portraiture sessions in Golden BC, Edmonton AB and a variety of places within Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise and Kananaskis country; it really has been a great year for engagement photography, wedding photography and lifestyle photography. Looking back on these photos I can not help but feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It feels pretty great to have had the opportunity to meet these wonderful people, get to know a bit of their story and show them how beautiful they are. I know this sounds corny, possibly a bit too bubbly, but I really love this path. Deeply. Getting to share this passion with so many wonderful people has left me enormously happy, grateful and driven to do better each year. 2015 has been a great year, and I am super pumped to see what is in store for 2016.

To each and everyone of you, Thank You for bringing me along to share in your intimate celebrations. It has meant the world to me to get to photograph your special occasion. I wish you all nothing but the very best life has to offer and a continued path of love, joy and happiness together.

Happy New Year and New Beginnings!

Warmest regards, xo

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Eagle’s Eye Restaurant Wedding in Golden, BC

What a pleasure it is to finally be able to share this super fun, adventurous and incredibly beautiful wedding day on my blog!

I have always wanted to photograph a wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, British Columbia. There are many reasons, but here are a few. There are incredibly beautiful alpine vistas in every direction you look, a gorgeous gondola accessed lodge situation high up the Purcell Mountain range (7,700 feet to be exact!), a ceremony backdrop like no other I have seen and the perfect place to photograph a couple at sunset (my favourite time of day!).

Kaitlin and Scott's wedding proved to be everything I had hoped for and more as my first wedding at the stunning Eagles Eye Restaurant. These two are quite the adventurous souls! They love their outdoor pursuits and getting share that lifestyle together. There was a lot of trust in their abilities to maneuver over the terrain surrounding the lodge for the photographs we were both hoping to achieve. The results are beautiful!

I am so glad I got to meet this awesome couple! We share a deep love for skiing, both resort and backcountry. Conversations between us were often an ongoing banter of places we'd both skied and people we knew. It felt like friendship right from the beginning, making my job extra easy for capturing these two beautiful people.

Their wedding took place on a blue bird, sunny, and warm August 1st day. With temps breaking +34 degree celsius in the valley bottom, we wasted little time before heading up the gondola at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort to prepare for their afternoon wedding. As soon as we exited the gondola, the temps were perfect and we were greeted with incredible views of the Canadian Rockies and the Purcell mountain range in every direction. It was beautiful!

The best word I can use to describe there day is elegant. From the mountain decor within the lodge, to champagne toasts, amazing cuisine and beautiful, happy people everywhere you looked. Since we had such great weather, we took advantage and went outside as much as we could for portraiture sessions. You couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. The night ended with one heck of a dance party! It was awesome!

Thank you for the privilege of getting to be your photographer, Kaitlin and Scott! I will always remember your sweet wedding and smile fondly at the photographs we made together. Warmest wishes for a very loving life together. You two were made for each other! xo

Falon and Derek's Summer Wedding at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club.

What a day this wedding proved to be for all involved! Between the summer temps that broke +37 degrees Celsius, to a car accident that nearly kept me from joining the reception, to one of the hottest and most lively dance's I've ever photographed, this day delivered! Big time!

Okay, let's back it up... To start, Derek and Falon are without a doubt two of the nicest people you could ever ask to work with and know. From the moment we met, at a great little coffee shop in Canmore, I knew they would be a pleasure to work with. Listening to them describe all of the different places they have visited in the world, and all of the places they couldn't contain their excitement encouraging me to also visit, I knew this would be a wedding to remember.

Let's speed up to June 27th, 2015. The day was clear, warm and bristling with excitement as these two got ready to be married at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club. Solara Resort and Spa provided getting ready locations for both Derek and Falon; they were also the host of their reception. To say this day was hot, would be an understatement! To add to the heat, Falon's dress was hard to beat. She was beyond beautiful in her open back, low cut, beautiful dress. I loved getting to photograph her in it.

Derek and Falon prepared me for the array of characters that would be involved at their wedding, they did not lead me astray. The day and night were filled with laughter, great dance moves and funny characters left, right and centre. I am super grateful I was able to get to know them better, as I almost didn't make the reception... While on route to Solara Resort and Spa, a car rear ended me, causing quite a stir on the path to their reception. Between desperate pleas with the ambulance and RCMP, I was finally freed to join the couple (uninjured!) and capture the many heartfelt speeches and awesome dance moves that ensued.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Derek and Falon for allowing me to be a part of your super, fun-filled wedding day! I wish you both so much joy, adventures abroad and at home with each other, and with the beautiful life you two are building together. You both are one of kind! Much love! xo

Buffalo Mountain Lodge Wedding ~ Banff National Park

Oh how I loved getting to photograph this incredible couple! Let me tell you the ways...

I first met Greg and Victoria more than a year prior to their wedding, and knew immediately they would be a joy to work with. Our first photography session happened back in the fall of 2013, when I shot their engagement session in Banff and Canmore. The way these two love one another is really special. No guidance was ever needed to capture their love for one another. Not only are they a joy to watch together, they are also very easy on the eyes. True beautifies inside and out! If I had to choose their best qualities though, it would have to be their openness, patience and full trust during our sessions together. It seriously felt like I'd won the photography lottery getting to work with these two. So great!

I feel extra bonded to these two for another reason. I also got to photograph Greg's sister's wedding (Heather and Jon) in the winter of 2014. After working with both couples and their families, it was a great feeling showing up at Greg and Victoria's wedding feeling like an old family friend. Such a gift!

The wedding day played out like a well orchestrated symphony. Every detail was meticulously planned with loving attention. From the start of the day, I knew it was going to be memorable. From his suit to her gorgeous dress, these two were bringing class and great fashion to the Rockies. The wedding party... What a super fun group of people to work with! They kept me on my toes and laughing until my abs hurt all day. Greg and Victoria are surrounded by incredibly loving family members and friends. Lots of laughter, genuine hugs, happiness, joyful tears and candid moments were expressed all day.

The set the stage for their ceremony: imagine dark, looming clouds, pierced with the occasional strike of warm sunlight painting it's way along the landscape. Add to this, the boom of thunder rolling all around the surrounding mountains. That was the start of their ceremony. It was electric! (no pun intended ;) With a stage like that, only magic could from of it and that is exactly what unfolded for the rest of their wedding day. Between the warm breeze and soft skies that welcomed us during the bride/groom portrait session, to a very heart centered reception, the day was perfect. The reception brought animated speeches, tears of love, and great belly laughs that echoed off the warm wood walls of the beautiful Buffalo Mountain Lodge. The day didn't stop there though... The night came on hot and heavy with one heck of a good party, courtesy of DJ Strength of Solid Beat Productions! If you are looking for a great DJ who will keep your toes a tappin', look no further, he is great!

To say this was a favorite wedding, is an understatement. It was a privilege to be the lucky one who got to capture their undeniable love for one another, amongst a group of truly loving and welcoming family and friends. Enjoy the photo collage from their beautiful day in Banff National Park!

Many warm wishes and blessings to you both, Greg and Victoria! A lifetime of love and laughter to you both! xo

Jay and Kathleen - Delta Kananaskis Wedding

I love Kananaskis country. It really has to be one of the most beautiful parts of the Canadian Rockies. It proved to be extra beautiful on the day Jay and Kathleen got married last July at the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis.

The lodge is situated within the picturesque front ranges of the Canadian Rockies, only a short drive from Calgary AB. It boasts some of the most lovely views of the rocky peaks that welcome you into the Kananaskis range. To top off the great surroundings, the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis also provides every comfort and luxury you would want on a wedding day.

The day was perfect! We had blue skies, warm temperatures and were treated to a glorious sunset in the Rockies. Between the silence you experience on a windless day, the vast valley stretching out before us, and the joy they shared calling each other husband and wife; all of it was a lovely way to finish the day with them.

All throughout the day, there were plenty of loving, sentimental and joyful moments that unfolded between them and their closest family members and friends. It was an honor getting to photograph them and be witness to such a loving union. Best wishes for more love to grow between you and your family. xo

Heather and Jon - Storm Mountain Lodge Winter Wedding

This was one beautiful winter's day for a wedding, and I am so pleased I got to be the photographer who captured this stunning couples, elegant mountain wedding.

I first got to work with Heather and Jon on a warm, summer evening for an engagement session in Canmore, AB. We had such a great time together! Between photographing their beloved camper van, their adorable dog and their love of biking amongst the beautiful mountains that surround Canmore; it was an ideal engagement session.

Heather and Jon were so torn between a summer wedding in Canmore, or try what they really wanted and that was a winter wedding in the mountains. In the end, their hearts won. They both love winter, love to ski, and love intimate, warm and cozy feeling places. It was a pleasant surprise when they chose Storm Mountain Lodge as the destination for their winter wedding. Storm Mountain Lodge is a beautiful, remote venue located along Hwy 93 south in Alberta. If you have never been, you must check it out! It is the perfect mountain getaway, situated among some of the Rockies most beautiful peaks.

Rustic mountain decor, meets elegance was the best way to describe the approach to their wedding. Heather was beyond stunning in her elegant wedding dress and modern approach to hair provided by Joanne Bokitch of Mountain Beauties, and just the right amount of make up provided by Linda Sahoo. We had planned a first look in the afternoon when the sun was still high enough in the sky, providing warm winter light. After the first look, we decided to proceed with all photos relating to family portraits, wedding party and a gorgeous bride/groom session at the base of stunning Castle Mountain, just off of Hwy 1. By the time the ceremony came, the weather started to turn producing this softly falling snow. Perfect conditions to retreat indoors and enjoy the comforts of a warm lodge. Throughout the whole reception, the snow continued to fall quietly outside while we dinned on delicious meals provided by the Lodge. It was perfect!

Being a winter lover myself, I was so pleased to get to be a part of this day. Thank you so much Heather and Jon for allowing me the pleasure of getting to capture your lovely wedding day. Also, thank you for imparting such kind words and these for your experience with me as your photographer. Much love and well wished to you both! Lets go skiing! xo
