My Favourite Photos from 2018 - The Canadian Rockies and Beyond

2018 was a great, big, beautiful year. One I will never forget. This has been a great year for documenting weddings, elopements and couples who felt like a lovely match to the style I use to photograph connections and people in love. I feel humbled and incredibly blessed by all of the people I got to work with in Canada and abroad. My gratitude for your trust when documenting an intimate moment runs deep, and leaves me ever fulfilled to be on this path with photography. Thank you for sharing such a lovely space to create from.

Getting to visit Ireland and photograph my first destination wedding would be another highlight for the year. I can not wait to share this wedding! You’ll find a healthy selection of images from this wedding mid pack below. Between this amazing wedding, and the 29 other incredible weddings that took place all over the Rockies, I will be delightfully busy updating my blog with this years, and last years (2017) weddings. It will be great to share some fresh, new work.

Another major highlight for the year was getting to travel more. Getting to visit Tofino, Ireland, New York, and then San Francisco were all places I have longed to visit. I have shared a couple photos from some of these places below, and plan to do more personal photography projects that may make an appearance on this site in the future.

With this being the most full year I have had in the past 6 years of business, a lot of important aspects of life were left a bit short. As much as I love this path, I also love life and the ever present pursuit of a work life balance that provides enough rest to really dig deep and keep pushing myself as an artist. This year, I will be making a significant goal to attain that balance and level out how much I work vs how much I live and create for me. 2019 is still a full year, one I am very excited to be a part of. I am equally excited to explore inviting time with friends & family, outdoor recreation, creative personal projects, and above all else ~ time for self care to come back into the picture. We are all deserving of taking great care of ourselves in any capacity we can create. The idea is to create it from a place of worthiness.

Another major goal, one I have been building towards for a couple years now, is to do a full and complete rebrand of my business. I am excited to get started on a fresh new look for my website, blog, and new, exciting options for couples hiring me for the coming years. With all of the busyness mentioned above, there are nearly 60 weddings that only a few photos have been shared from each on social media. It will be great to have the time to thoughtfully share some of my favourite work from the past two years.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pop by and see some of my favourite images from the past year. I apologize for the quantity, I wanted to dabble a few personal photos throughout. I am so excited to invite new experiences to come in 2019, both professionally and personally. I am sending you all a warm, heartfelt wish for a wonderful and fulfilling year ahead. Thank you so very much for your support!

Much love,

Jody

Alisha and Brandon | Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Wedding | Golden, BC

I love blogging season, as it finally gives me the opportunity to share the amazing couples and stories I have had the pleasure of documenting over the past year. I have been looking forward to sharing this lovely couples wedding and engagement session.

I first had the pleasure of first working with Brandon and Alisha for their engagement photos early in July of 2016. It was a mere 3 weeks later that I got to photograph their beautiful, stormy wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, BC. I loved getting to photograph this couples sincere love for one another. They are so sweet, happy, affectionate and always so kind to each other. I decided to share a few of my favourite photographs from our engagement session in beautiful Peter Lougheed Provincial Park area. We had such a lovely sunset session on a warm summer evening!

Let's fast forward to their wedding day in Golden, BC. We had an entirely different experience, weather wise, but a truly memorable one nonetheless. Their day came with warm sunshine, golf ball sized hail, thunder and lightning, strong periods of rain and intense wind. It was true roller coaster of mountain weather all day. I loved it! One of my favourite moments was watching a huge storm swell dissipate moments before their ceremony, revealing the most austere, romantic, sweeping clouds as a backdrop to their very emotional ceremony. It was beyond beautiful.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to photograph this loving couple and am very pleased to share my favourite moments from their engagement session and wedding day. It was hard to choose images from their wedding day. I have a lot of favourites, as you will see scrolling through the images. I couldn't help myself, it was a lovely day.

Thank you so much, Alisha and Brandon, for bringing me along to capture this wonderful time in your lives. It was a pleasure. I wish you both continued love and affection for one another throughout your lives. I think I speak for everyone when I say you two are made for each other. Warmest wishes, xo

A personal thank you to Julie Kundrik, my trusty assistant, for providing excellent help with their wedding day. We couldn't have done it without you! xo

A year in Review | My favourite moments from 2016

2016 was a great year! So many wonderful couples joined me in 2016 to create one of my best years since starting my business in 2012. This was my first year going full time and what a wonderful year it has been.

Entering year 5, I am filled with lots of inspiration and new creatives ideas for photographing weddings all over Alberta and British Columbia in 2017. With 2017 close to being booked solid, I find myself feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for starting out on this path. I have been blessed with some really incredible couples and moments since starting my business, and I am so pleased to be gearing up for another busy year ahead.

Here are my favourite moments for wedding photography and engagement photography from 2016. I loved getting to work with each and every one of these couples. All of you were truly a gift to join and photograph. I thank you for bringing me along to capture some of your highlight moments in life. I wish all you the very best life has to offer.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Wedding | Golden, BC | June 2016

I am so pleased I got to meet and get to know Brendan and Basia as a couple. These are two of the most kind, genuine and loving couples I have had the pleasure of working with. I am so excited to finally be able to share their beautiful Kicking Horse Mountain Resort wedding from June this year.

I first had the pleasure of photographing these adventurous souls for their engagement session back in June 2015. We had an awesome alpine session in Kananaskis Country, AB. We hiked up to this beautiful area called West Wind Pass. It is still one of my favourite sessions I have done with a couple.

Let's fast forward to their wedding day, which took place this past June on a beautiful summers day in Golden, BC. Their ceremony and reception took place at the always beautiful Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Eagles Eye Restaurant. You really can not go wrong when your wedding takes place at 7700 feet, with a 360 degree panorama of mountains, a beautiful couple and an amazing array of family and friends who shared the day with them. I loved this wedding so much!

The couple each got ready at different homes at the base of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. After doing some portraits around the base of the resort, it was finally time to head up on the chair lift and drink some champagne to further welcome the building excitement for their ceremony in the clouds.

I would have to say my favourite part of their day came with the reception. These two know how to party, ski bum style. Just the way I like it! Rather than having the classic clinking of the glasses to make the couple kiss, these two brought is a shotski instead. Meaning, any time you wanted to make the couple kiss, they had to make their way to the head table and do a shot of this delicious polish alcohol out of a shot glass imbedded in a ski. I have far too many photos of this (some really funny ones!) to share here, but you get the idea. It was great!

I must also add that we had an incredibly beautiful sunset up there and took advantage of it as often as we could to photograph and appreciate it. I must say, I am so pleased to call this my home town venue. I love living in Golden, BC, and I really love photographing weddings at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

Here are a collection of my favourite moments from their wedding day. Thank you so much, Brendan and Basia, for bringing me along to capture both your adventurous spirits on our engagement session, and your beautiful wedding day in the clouds. You both were such a pleasure to work with. I loved every moment of our time together. I wish you both the very best! xo

Alpine Engagement Session | Kananaskis Country, AB

I loved this summer engagement session with Brendan and Basia so much! They were such a treat to work with! When we'd first started talking about engagement photos, we were really keen to go up in the mountains for a session to showcase their love of the Canadian Rockies. We waited for a good weather window, and wandered up into the alpine of Kananaskis country, Alberta, to enjoy a sunset engagement session amongst the beautiful peaks.

The evening was perfect. Little to no wind, warm temperatures and incredible views at every turn. We were all very pleased, especially the dog! I love winter very much, but these summery engagement photos have me craving the warmth of the sun, and the opportunity to get up high in the mountains to do more of this style of engagement photos. I love adventurous souls!

Super excited to work with these two beautiful beings again this coming June for their mountain top wedding held at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. I am super excited to photograph that gorgeous venue again, and get to work with Brendan and Basia for their very special date in the clouds. It will be great!

I hope you're all finding ways to play in the winter sun! Enjoy the photos! xo

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Eagle’s Eye Restaurant Wedding in Golden, BC

What a pleasure it is to finally be able to share this super fun, adventurous and incredibly beautiful wedding day on my blog!

I have always wanted to photograph a wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, British Columbia. There are many reasons, but here are a few. There are incredibly beautiful alpine vistas in every direction you look, a gorgeous gondola accessed lodge situation high up the Purcell Mountain range (7,700 feet to be exact!), a ceremony backdrop like no other I have seen and the perfect place to photograph a couple at sunset (my favourite time of day!).

Kaitlin and Scott's wedding proved to be everything I had hoped for and more as my first wedding at the stunning Eagles Eye Restaurant. These two are quite the adventurous souls! They love their outdoor pursuits and getting share that lifestyle together. There was a lot of trust in their abilities to maneuver over the terrain surrounding the lodge for the photographs we were both hoping to achieve. The results are beautiful!

I am so glad I got to meet this awesome couple! We share a deep love for skiing, both resort and backcountry. Conversations between us were often an ongoing banter of places we'd both skied and people we knew. It felt like friendship right from the beginning, making my job extra easy for capturing these two beautiful people.

Their wedding took place on a blue bird, sunny, and warm August 1st day. With temps breaking +34 degree celsius in the valley bottom, we wasted little time before heading up the gondola at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort to prepare for their afternoon wedding. As soon as we exited the gondola, the temps were perfect and we were greeted with incredible views of the Canadian Rockies and the Purcell mountain range in every direction. It was beautiful!

The best word I can use to describe there day is elegant. From the mountain decor within the lodge, to champagne toasts, amazing cuisine and beautiful, happy people everywhere you looked. Since we had such great weather, we took advantage and went outside as much as we could for portraiture sessions. You couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. The night ended with one heck of a dance party! It was awesome!

Thank you for the privilege of getting to be your photographer, Kaitlin and Scott! I will always remember your sweet wedding and smile fondly at the photographs we made together. Warmest wishes for a very loving life together. You two were made for each other! xo

I had some excellent help from Andrew Lunt Photography for this wedding as well. I couldn't have done it without you, Andrew!
